RECOMMENDING THAT TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FAVORABLY CONSIDER THE
JOINT GRANT APPLICATION BY THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI AND TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY -
CORPUS CHRISTI FOR STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT FUNDS, TO DESIGN,
CONSTRUCT, AND OPERATE A 17 MILE HIKE/BIKE TRAIL SYSTEM AND OTHER RELATED
IMPROVEMENTS; THE TOTAL GRANT FUNDS REQUEST IS $1,520,000, PLUS $195,000 OF CITY PARK
BOND FUNDS AND $20,000 OF PARK TRUST FUNDS WHICH WILL BE USED AS CITY'S PORTION OF
THE LOCAL GRANT MATCH; AND 5300,000 FROM TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY -CORPUS CHRISTI
WHICH WILL BE USED AS ITS SHARE OF THE LOCAL MATCH REQUIREMENT.
WHEREAS, a hike/bike trail will benefit the citizens of Corpus Christi and the students at Texas
A&M University -Corpus Christi by providing alternative transportation routes, as well as recreational
routes; and
WHEREAS, a hike/bike trail is a part of the City's Master Transportation Plan and Comprehensive
Plan; and
WHEREAS, the currently proposed hike/bike trail can be greatly improved and enhanced if grant
funds can be used to enlarge the scope of the project; and
WHEREAS, the City is committed to spending $195,000 of Park Bond Funds and $20,000 of Park
Trust Funds as the City's share of the local match, and has obtained a $300,000 funding commitment from
Texas A&M University -Corpus Christi for its share of the local match requirement; and
WHEREAS, the enhancement funding program is designed to benefit projects such as the hike/bike
trail proposed by the City and Texas A&M University -Corpus Christi.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City of Corpus Christi and Texas A&M University -Corpus Christi request that
the Texas Department of Transportation favorably consider their joint grant application for Statewide
Transportation Enhancement Funds to design, construct, and operate a seventeen (17) mile hike/bike trail
and other related improvements.
SECTION 2. City affirmatively commits $195,000 of Park Bond Funds and $20,000 of Park Trust
Funds as the City's share of the local match requirement for receipt of the grant; and Texas A&M
University -Corpus Christi has made a $300,000 funding commitment to the City for its share of the local
match required.
