APPLAUDING THE EFFORTS OF THE CORPUS CHRISTI
QUINCENTENNIAL COMMISSION, DECLARING THE SUCCESSFUL
COMPLETION OF THEIR MISSION, COMMENDING COMMISSION
MEMBERS FOR A JOB WELL DONE, AND REPEALING RESOLUTION
NO. 20270.
WHEREAS, the Quincentennial Commission was established by
City Council Resolution No. 20270 on April 7, 1988 for the purpose
of developing plans and activities to make Corpus Christi a focal
point for the 1992 Quincentennial celebration of the 500th
anniversary of the discovery of the Americas; and
WHEREAS, twenty-one dedicated citizens gave unselfishly
of their time, talents, and vision to serve on the Commission and
assure its success; and
WHEREAS, the Commission has completed in all respects the
ambitious goals entrusted to it by the City Council, sponsoring and
Implementing a host of outstanding projects including the Statue of
Christopher Columbus, the Los Barcos Festival and An Evening with
Carlos Fuentes, to name a few; and
WHEREAS, the Commissions's members have earned the
gratitude and admiration of all our citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the Council enthusiastically applauds
the Commission's success, and expresses the sincere and
wholehearted gratitude of the entire community for the Commission's
exceptional contributions.
SECTION 2. That the Council declares that the Commission
has completely and admirably concluded the singular and unique task
entrusted to them, and having accomplished their mission for the
City, its members are commended for a job well done.
SECTION 3. Resolution NO. 20270, adopted by the City
Council on April 12, 1988, is hereby repealed.
