AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A RELEASE OF
DEED RESTRICTION TO TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY -CORPUS CHRISTI;
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a release of
deed restriction to Texas A&M University -Corpus Christi a substantial copy of which is
attached hereto as Exhibit A.
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy
attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for immediate action necessary
for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an emergency
is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting
upon ordinances at two regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take
effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the � i day of

RELEASE OF DEED RESTRICTION
STATE OF TEXAS §
COUNTY OF NUECES §
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi conveyed approximately 227.599 acres on
Ward Island to Texas A&I University at Corpus Christi, now known as Texas A&M
University -Corpus Christi, said deed recorded in Volume 1464, pages 1034-1040, Deed
Records, Nueces County, Texas; and
WHEREAS, the deed contained a restriction limiting use of the property for the
purposes of courses of instruction as a public upper level college; and
WHEREAS, Texas A&M University -Corpus Christi has been designated as a four-
year university and desires to construct on -campus student housing; and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi desires to release the deed restriction;
NOW, THEREFORE, the parties agree as follows:
The deed restriction, appearing at the bottom of page 1036 in Volume 1464, Deed
Records, Nueces County, Texas, limiting use of the Ward Island property to "courses of
instruction as a public upper level college" is hereby released and terminated and shall be
of no further force and effect.
Executed this II day of October, 1993.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter
rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances at two regular
meetings: I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter
rule and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
