SOLID WASTE SERVICES
A RESOLUTION
APPROVING TWO (2) GRANT APPLICATIONS - ONE FOR COMPOSTING EQUIPMENT
IN THE AMOUNT OF $100,000 AND ONE FOR COMPOSTING AND RECYCLING
EDUCATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $17,100.
WHEREAS, a municipal composting program is necessary to meet
a waste reduction goal of 50% by the year 2000 established by
regulations of the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission
as part of the Clean Cities 2000 program,
WHEREAS, continued education on pre -cycling, waste reduction,
recycling, composting and the "Don't Bag It" Program is essential
for the continued success of existing and future City waste
reduction programs,
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi is committed to integrated
solid waste management programs to divert waste from the
J.C. Elliott Landfill to extend the life of the landfill, and
preserve the environment and natural resources,
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi staff recommends
submission of the two grant applications to the Texas Natural
Resource Conservation Commission in amounts of $100,000 and
$17,100, respectively, to acquire composting equipment and to
establish an educational library of videos on composting, recycling
and waste reduction programs and to produce educational flyers and
handouts for public education on waste reduction.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
AT
1. That the City of Corpus Christi City Council approves the
two grant applications, and is committed to promoting the
grant programs.
2. That the City Manager and staff will integrate these
pro rams into City operations prudently and efficiently.
