HomeMy WebLinkAbout022023 RES - 08/23/1994A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A CITY PLAN OF ACTION TO PURSUE A SOLUTION TO THE OLD NUECES COUNTY COURTHOUSE, CALLING UPON THE TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION TO BB AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT IN SUCH SOLUTION AND COMMENDING MR. DUSTY DURRILL AND THE NONPROFIT CORPORATION, JUSTICE BUILDING, INC., FOR CONTINUING TO DILIGENTLY SEEK A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. WHEREAS, the Old Nueces County Courthouse has been abandoned since 1977 , and in its current state of disrepair is detrimental to the image of Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, the City Council has considered how to proceed to remedy this problem; and WHEREAS, the City Council has endorsed the Gateway Project to beautify downtown Corpus Christi and the continued presence of the Old Nueces County Courthouse in its current condition will detract from the Gateway Project; and WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi and numerous groups and individuals including the Downtown Management District continue to actively seek renovation and redevelopment of the downtown area and the visible condition of the Old Nueces County Courthouse is detrimental to this effort; and WHEREAS, Mr. Dusty Durrill and his nonprofit corporation, Justice Building, Inc. , is making a valiant effort to determine some method of renovation for the Courthouse; and WHEREAS, a definitive time -frame should be established within which some action must be commenced with regard to the Courthouse; and WHEREAS, the State of Texas through the Texas Historical Commission holds a historic preservation covenant on the Courthouse and therefore has at least some ownership interest in the Courthouse. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1: The City Council commends Mr. Dusty Durrill and his nonprofit corporation, Justice Building, Inc. , for their continuing efforts to develop some method of renovation for the Old Nueces County Courthouse. SECTION 2: City staff is directed to aggressively assist Mr. Durrill in determining both a use for and funding of renovation for the Old Nueces County Courthouse. SECTION 3: The City Council calls upon the Texas Historical Commission as an interest holder in the Old Nueces County Courthouse to actively participate in the solution of the problem of the Old Nueces County Courthouse. )22)23 T SECTION 4: That on or before February 14, 1995, the City Council directs that a full report be presented to the City Council on a definitive plan of action to renovate the Old Nueces County Courthouse specifically including but not limited to what efforts have been made by the State of Texas through the Texas Historical Commission to actively seek a solution to the problem.
