HomeMy WebLinkAbout022028 RES - 09/13/1994A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CORPUS CHRISTI DOWNTOWN MANAGEMENT DISTRICT'S VISION - PEOPLES STREET PEDESTRIAN CORRIDOR APPLICATION BEFORE THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District desires enhancements to pedestrian areas along both sides and at intersections of Peoples Street in downtown Corpus Christi, consisting of above -grade street level pedestrian improvements within the public right-of-way, above and beyond the normal and customary pedestrian amenities in downtown Corpus Christi, and specifically including special sidewalk and crosswalk paving, enhanced lighting for improved safety and aesthetics, pedestrian amenities such as benches, trash cans, drinking fountains and bike racks, and landscaping and other beautification comprising a project known as VISION - Peoples Street Pedestrian Corridor, at an estimated total cost of $500,000; and, WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District has sponsored a request for a reimbursement of $400,000 from the Texas Department of Transportation, and has committed to provide $100,000 of District tax revenue as local matching funds for such reimbursement, to construct the VISION - Peoples Street Pedestrian Corridor project; and WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Planning Organization has nominated the VISION - Peoples Street Pedestrian Corridor project as a candidate for the desired reimbursement of $400,000; and, WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District has requested a resolution of support from the City Council to show public support for the VISION - Peoples Street Pedestrian Corridor project; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council supports the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District's VISION - Peoples Street Pedestrian Corridor application before the Texas Department of Transportation.
