CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF THE COMMUNITY'S EFFORTS ON
OZONE ADVISORY DAYS.
WHEREAS, Corpus Christi, the Sparkling City by the Sea,
has a reputation as a clean and beautiful city with clean air,
which contributes to the quality of life for residents of the City,
yet occasional weather conditions cause ozone levels to approach
the lowest limit of concern expressed in the federal Clean Air Act;
and,
WHEREAS, the Texas Natural Resource Conservation
Commission has established a program of ozone advisories to assist
the Corpus Christi community in taking precautions to avoid
violations of the ozone standards of the Clean Air Act; and,
WHEREAS, residents, businesses, and governmental agencies
of Corpus Christi and especially refineries and other major
industries have implemented programs to reduce emissions of
nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds on ozone advisory
days; and,
WHEREAS, the precautions taken by residents, businesses,
governmental agencies, and especially refineries and other major
industries have avoided any violations of the Clean Air Act on
ozone advisory days, including three consecutive days last week;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council expresses appreciation
to the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission for
initiating the ozone advisory program.
SECTION 2. That the City Council praises residents,
businesses, governmental agencies, and especially refineries and
other major industries for their achievements in reducing air
emissions on ozone advisory days and maintaining compliance with
the Clean Air Act.
SECTION 3. That all citizens are urged to continue their
efforts to maintain clean air in Corpus Christi on ozone advisory
days and as part of everyday activities.
