AMENDING CHAPTER 18, FIRE PREVENTION CODE, ARTICLE I,
GENERAL, SECTION 18-1, FIRE PREVENTION CODE, OF THE CITY
CODE OF ORDINANCES; PROVIDING FOR ADDITIONS, DELETIONS,
AND CHANGES TO SECTION 18-1, CHAPTER 9, FLAMMABLE AND
COMBUSTIBLE LIQUIDS OF SAID CODE; PROVIDING A SAVINGS
CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION.
WHEREAS, the 1991 edition of the Standard Fire Prevention Code adopted by the
International Association of Fire Chiefs and published by the Southern Building Code Congress
International, Inc. (SBCCI) has been adopted by the City of Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi desires to amend the City of Corpus Christi
Fire Prevention Code by amending the Fire Prevention Code with certain additions, deletions, and
changes for regulatory purposes and in the interest of life and property protection;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi Fire Prevention Code adopted as
Chapter 18, Article I, Section 18-1, Chapter 9, Flammable and Combustible Liquids of the City Code
of Ordinances is hereby amended by providing for certain additions, deletions, and changes correlated
to the paragraph numbers in the SBCCI Standard Fire Code as follows:

902 TANK STORAGE
902.1 Restricted Locations
902.1.1 The storage of flammable or combustible liquids in aboveground tanks outside of buildings
is prohibited except within the I-3 "Heavy Industrial" zoning district and at Marine Service Stations.
902.1.2 The location and installation of outside aboveground tanks for the storage of flammable or
combustible liquids shall be in accordance with NFiPA 30, and this Chapter. Marine service stations

must also meet NFiPA 30A and must be UL listed.
SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a
court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause,
phrase, word or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every
section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word, or provision hereof be given full force and
effect for its purpose.
SECTION 3. Publication shall be made in the official publication of the City of
Corpus Christi by publishing the caption stating in substance the purpose of the ordinance.
