AMENDING ORDINANCE 021404 BY ADOPTING NEWLY REVISED
NUECES COUNTY PRECINCT CHANGES AND ADJUSTING SINGLE
MEMBER DISTRICT LINES TO CONFORM WITH PRECINCT LINE
ADJUSTMENTS; PROVIDING FOR SUBMISSION OF THE SINGLE
MEMBER DISTRICT LINE ADJUSTMENTS FOR PRECLEARANCE FROM
THE U. S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE.
WHEREAS, on June 22, 1994, the Nueces County Commissioners Court adjusted
the boundaries of the affected voting precincts to reflect the State Legislative changes as
mandated by State order;
WHEREAS, the Nueces County Commissioners Court also realigned precincts to
bring them into compliance with Section 42.006(d)(1) of the Texas Election Code which
limits the number of registered voters to 3,000 per voter precinct;
WHEREAS, in an effort to contain the cost of future elections, the Nueces County
Commissioners Court agreed to retain the existing number of voting precincts to 122
which necessitated consolidation of small voting precincts;
WHEREAS, single member district lines must coincide with precinct lines;
WHEREAS, the City Council adopted Ordinance 021404 which established the five
single member districts;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI:
SECTION 1. That Ordinance 021404 is hereby amended to incorporate the newly
revised Nueces County precinct boundary lines, which are established as City election
precincts, and that the five single member districts shall consist of those Nueces County
precincts and those portions thereof within the city limits set out on Exhibit "A", and the
district boundaries of said districts are hereby amended and adopted as the new single
member district boundaries as set out on the map attached as Exhibit "B"';
SECTION 2. That the City Secretary is directed to request consideration by the U.
S. Justice Department by the submission of any change provided herein which requires
preclearance, and providing such demographic data and information as required by law.
