AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION AND SUBMISSION TO THE ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION OF A PUBLIC WORKS APPLICATION
PERTAINING TO THE TEXAS STATE AQUARIUM EXPANSION PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the Texas State Aquarium is one of the largest tourist attractions in the City of
Corpus Christi and provides significant educational opportunity to the citizens of Corpus Christi
while greatly enhancing the local tourist industry; and
WHEREAS, the Texas State Aquarium is now prepared to move forward with the next phase of
the Aquarium master plan which includes a conservation pavilion; and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has heretofore submitted a public works pre -application
to the Economic Development Administration for a portion of the costs of the construction of the
proposed Aquarium expansion; and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has been invited to submit a full application to the
Economic Development Administration for the proposed project; and
WHEREAS, the Texas State Aquarium has raised through private funding 100% of the matching
requirements.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI:
Section 1. That the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to submit a Public
Works Application to the Economic Development Administration on behalf of the Texas State
Aquarium Expansion Project, together with any and all documents related to submission or future
acceptance of the grant.
