HomeMy WebLinkAbout022150 RES - 01/31/1995RESOLUTION CONDEMNING NAZI IDEAS EXPRESSED ON CABLE PUBLIC ACCESS TELEVISION; URGING CITIZENS TO LAWFULLY DEMONSTRATE THEIR ABHORRENCE OF SUCH IDEAS; URGING CITIZENS TO REDEDICATE THEMSELVES TO EQUAL TREATMENT FOR ALL; AND URGING EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS TO EDUCATE STUDENTS ABOUT NAZI ATROCITIES WHEREAS, a Nazi -sponsored show is being aired on cable public access television; and WHEREAS, the show glorifies the crimes and philosophy of Adolph Hitler, madness which caused the murders of millions of innocent people; and WHEREAS, the show advocates the brutal destruction of the constitutional rights of millions of our friends and neighbors, locally and nationwide; and WHEREAS, our parents and grandparents made great sacrifices, many the supreme sacrifice, to rid the world of this philosophy antithetical to every American value; and WHEREAS, virtually every citizen of Corpus Christi is revulsed at the seditious, aberrant ideas expressed by these few; and WHEREAS, the City Council shares that revulsion of our citizens; and WHEREAS, such ideas should never go unchallenged. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. On behalf of the citizens of Corpus Christi, we condemn the ideas expressed by the Nazi show "Race and Reason". SECTION 2. We urge all our citizens to voice and demonstrate their abhorrence of the show's ideas in every lawful manner. SECTION 3. We urge all our citizens to reaffirm and rededicate themselves to a better community through the fair, equal, respectful, and lawful treatment of all persons and groups. SECTION 4.
