HomeMy WebLinkAbout022158 RES - 02/21/1995A RESOLUTION REQUESTING NUECES COUNTY TO ADOPT AND ADMINISTER TRAFFIC SAFETY REGULATIONS WITHIN THE GULF BEACH AREA OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI. WHEREAS, under present circumstances only approximately 4,200 lineal feet, or less than 10 percent of the Gulf beach within the beach access jurisdiction of the City, is within the city limits of the City of Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, over 44,000 lineal feet of the beach is maintained and policed by Nueces County, and WHEREAS, Nueces County maintains the Gulf beach within the City of Corpus Christi in accordance with an Interlocal Agreement between the City of Corpus Christi and Nueces County; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi requests that Nueces County reaffirm its beach traffic orders included in its March 1992 Coastal Management Plan. In addition, the City requests Nueces County to incorporate language into its traffic orders to reflect the following provisions for controlling traffic and protecting pedestrians on the public beaches within its jurisdiction: 1. It shall be an offense for a person to operate a vehicle within any portion of the beach area designated as a "pedestrian safe area", defined as the area not less than 25 -feet seaward of the vegetation line or the lower edge of the seawall separated from vehicular travel by means of combination of (but not limited to) bollards, posts, poles, fencing and tethering. 2. Vehicular traffic, shall be restricted to a minimum 50 -foot linear corridor along the beach where two-way traffic is permitted, or a minimum 25 -foot linear corridor along the beach where one-way traffic is permitted. If less than these dimensions are provided, vehicular movement will be restricted for safety reasons. 3. It shall be an offense for any vehicle, trailer, travel -trailer, or combination thereof, to be parked within any portion of the beach area designated as a "pedestrian safe area". 4. A pedestrian safe area should be established seaward of the concrete portion of the Gulf Beach Seawall.
