REAFFIRMING THE DESIRES OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS, TO HAVE THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION (TXDOT) PROCEED WITH THE
COMPLETION OF THE CROSSTOWN EXPRESSWAY/PADRE
ISLAND DRIVE INTERCHANGE AS EXPEDITIOUSLY AS
POSSIBLE AND TO ALLOCATE THE NECESSARY FUNDS
FROM CATEGORY 12, COMMISSION STRATEGIC PRIORITY.
WHEREAS, the City, local community interests, and local TXDOT officials have long
recognized the need to provide additional routes for traffic from the primarily residential Southside
area to the employment and commercial centers of the City; and
WHEREAS, the extension of the Crosstown Expressway (SH 286) south of Padre Island
Drive to Oso Creek, with an eventual extension to the Chapman Ranch area will serve as such
alternate route to the employment and commercial centers of the City; and
WHEREAS, the frontage roads for the extension of the Crosstown Expressway (SH286)
south of Padre Island Drive to Oso Creek are nearing completion; and
WHEREAS, the TXDOT staff has been authorized to complete the design and plans for the
Crosstown Expressway (SH286) and Padre Island Drive (SH 358) interchange modifications; and
WHEREAS, without a firm bid date TXDOT staff are addressing other priorities; and
WHEREAS, the City and local community interests wish to communicate their desire to
expedite the Crosstown Expressway (SH 286) extension, including the interchange between
Crosstown Expressway (SH 286) and Padre Island Drive (SH 358).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi, Texas reaffirms its desire to have the Texas
Department of Transportation (TXDOT) proceed with the completion of the Crosstown
Expressway/Padre Island Drive Interchange as expeditiously as possible and to allocate the necessary
funds from Category 12, Commission Strategic priority.
