HomeMy WebLinkAbout022206 ORD - 04/04/1995AN ORDINANCE AMENDINGTHE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CHAPTER 18, FIRE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION, BY ADDING A NEW SECTION 18-2 OUTSIDE CITY LIMITS FIRE ENGINE RESPONSE RATES, ESTABLISHING RATES OF $350 PER TRUCK HOUR AND $5.00 PER MILE FOR FIRE CALLS AND ESTABLISHING A "FIRST RESPONDER" FEE FOR THOSE OCL CALLS WHEN A FIRE ENGINE RESPONDS TO A MEDICAL EMERGENCY REQUIRING A "FIRST RESPONDER," IN ADDITION TO ANY EMS CHARGES WHICH MAY ALSO BE INCURRED, OF $350 PER TRUCK HOUR AND $5.00 PER MILE FOR FIRE CALLS, OR EMERGENCY "FIRST RESPONDER" CALLS, WHICH FIRE AND "FIRST RESPONDER" CALLS DO NOT INVOLVE PROVIDING ASSISTANCE TO THE U.S. NAVY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, during the past twelve months the Fire Department responded to 43 OCL fire and medical emergencies requiring a "first responder" and traveled approximately 1500 miles in meeting such emergencies; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is necessary to raise the fees charged for responding to fire calls outside city limits; and WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it is necessary to establish a "first responder" fee for those OCL calls when a fire engine responds to a medical emergency requiring a "first responder;" and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to have these rates included in the city code of ordinances. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI: SECTION 1. That a new Section 18-2. Outside city limits fire engine response rates. be added to the City Code of Ordinances as follows: Sec. 18-2. Outside city limits fire engine response rates. A) Fire Calls. The fee for responding to Outside City Limit ("OCL") fire calls shall be $350 per fire truck hour and $5.00 per mile from the responding fire station to the fire call location, if responding to fire calls which do not involve providing assistance to the U.S. Navy. The fee for medical emergencies requiring a "first responder" shall be $350 per fire truck hour and $5.00 per mile from the responding fire station to the "first responder" medical emergency call location, in addition to any emergency medical services fees which may also be charged in relation to responding to the medical emergency call, if responding to medical emergency calls which do not involve providing assistance to the U.S. Navy. SECTION 2. That this ordinance will be effective on May I, 1995.
