BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERSTATE 69
TO THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY OF TEXAS.
WHEREAS, The Alliance for Interstate 69 Texas is an organization formed to promote the
rapid development of Interstate 69 (I-69) in Texas along the US 59, US 77, and US 281 alignments
in this state to connect East Texas through Houston with the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo;
WHEREAS, I-69 has been designated by Congress as a national high priority corridor; and,
WHEREAS, development of I-69 to the Rio Grande Valley is essential to maximize land-
based trade between Mexico and the United States; and,
WHEREAS, development of I-69 to the Rio Grande Valley would complement existing
border -access infrastructure in the State of Texas and integrate with Mexico's infrastructure; and,
WHEREAS, the Rio Grande Valley is the most populated region in the United States that
is not directly served by an existing interstate system;
WHEREAS, the US 77/281 Coalition passed a resolution requesting the following
highways be upgraded to controlled access facilities that meet interstate standards:
U.S. 281 from the Rio Grande Valley to I-37
U.S. 77 from the Rio Grande Valley to Victoria;
S.H. 44/U.S. 59 from Corpus Christi to Laredo; and
Appropriate local connectors from the above to border crossings, ports, etc.,
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Alliance for I-69 Texas fully supports the
accelerated development of I-69 to the Rio Grande Valley.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Corpus
Christi fully supports the accelerated development and funding of I-69 to the Rio Grande Valley.
