AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO SUBMIT
AN ENHANCEMENT PROJECT APPLICATION FOR WATER STREET
IMPROVEMENTS BETWEEN KINNEY STREET AND INTERSTATE 37
FOR THE STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT
PROGRAM, AS ADMINISTERED BY THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION, AND AN EXPRESSION OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI'S WILLINGNESS TO COMMIT TO THE MINIMUM 20
PERCENT LOCAL FUNDING MATCH, ESTIMATED AT $500,000, FOR
THE WATER STREET PROJECT COST, SUBJECT TO IDENTIFYING AN
APPROPRIATE FUNDING SOURCE.
WHEREAS, the Water Street Improvements Project will benefit the citizens of and
visitors to Corpus Christi by providing enhanced pedestrian safety improvements, other pedestrian
amenities, and beautification enhancements; and
WHEREAS, the Downtown Business District can be generally enhanced if Statewide
Transportation Enhancement funds can be used to construct the scope of the project; and
WHEREAS, planned improvements along each of Interstate 37 and Shoreline Boulevard
as part of the Gateway Park Project will be better integrated with the Downtown Business District
with construction of the Water Street Improvements Project; and
WHEREAS, the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program is designed to benefit
projects such as the Water Street Improvements Project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1: The City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to submit an enhancement
program application for Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program funds to design and
construct the Water Street Improvements Project between Kinney Street and Interstate 37.
SECTION 2: The City of Corpus Christi is willing to commit to the minimum 20 percent
local funding match, so long as an appropriate source of the match can be feasibly identified for
the Water Street Improvements Project.
