HomeMy WebLinkAbout022539 RES - 04/16/1996RESOLUTION STATING THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI'S RECOMMENDATIONS, AS SPECIFICALLY SHOWN ON ATTACHMENT "A", TO THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR SPEED LIMITS ON STATE - MAINTAINED EXPRESSWAYS AND OTHER HIGHWAYS IN CORPUS CHRISTI, AND ACKNOWLEDGING THE CITY'S CONCURRENCE WITH THE SPEED LIMITS RECOMMENDED BY THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ITS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE CROSSTOWN EXPRESSWAY AND THE PADRE ISLAND DRIVE EXPRESSWAY BETWEEN THE CROSSTOWN EXPRESSWAY AND SH 357. WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi desires to cooperate with the Texas Department of Transportation in the establishing of safe and prudent speed limits on State -maintained expressways and highways in Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi acknowledges that the Texas Transportation Commission has exclusive authority in the establishing of speed limits on State -maintained expressways and highways in Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi concurs with the Texas Department of Transportation's speed limit recommendations, with the exception of the City's lower speed limit recommendations on the Crosstown Expressway (SH 286) and the section of the South Padre Island Drive Expressway (SH 358) between the Crosstown Expressway and SH 357; and WHEREAS,the City of Corpus Christi feels that certain conditions exist on the Crosstown Expressway and the aforementioned section of the South Padre Island Drive Expressway expressways that warrant special consideration of lower speed limits than that recommended the Texas Department of Transportation; and WHEREAS,the City of Corpus Christi wishes to make its recommendations on proposed speed limit increases on State -maintained expressways and highways in Corpus Christi directly known to the Texas Transportation Commission, through its Texas Department of Transportation; and WHEREAS,the City of Corpus Christi desires to act in the best interest of public safety for its citizens and visitors, as well as for pass-through motorists. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. The City of Corpus Christi respectfully requests the Texas Transportation Commission to establish the specified speed limits on the State -maintained expressways and highways as shown on Attachment "A".
