BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS, SUPPORTING THREE CITY GRANT APPLICATIONS AND
ONE FROM THE CORPUS CHRISTI BEACH ASSOCIATION TO
THE COASTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR IMPROVEMENT
PROJECTS CONSISTENT WITH THE CORPUS CHRISTI COASTAL
MANAGEMENT PLAN AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER,
OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO SUBMIT THE THREE CITY GRANT
APPLICATIONS.
WHEREAS, The State of Texas is expecting pass through grant funds from the U.S.
Department of Commerce/National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for
implementation of state Coastal Management Programs;
WHEREAS,the Coastal Coordinating Council has pledged that approximately 90% of the
grant funds will be distsributed to eligible entities in the coastal zone for projects that implement the
Coastal Management Program goals and policies -including wetland enhancement, shorelineaccess
improvements, waterfrom revitalization, environmental data base development, etc.;
WHEREAS, applications must be postmarked by May 31, 1996, projects may not be started
before October 1, 1996 and must be completed by September 30, 1997;
WHEREAS, the City proposes 3 projects for grant applications: (a) Padre Island Seawall
Public Beach Access and Parking Project; (b) Corpus Christi Downtown Waterfront Revitalization
(Gateway Project); and (c) Corpus Christi Beach Renourishment;
WHEREAS, the City endorses the Corpus Christi Beach Association submitting a grant
application for a Corpus Christi Beach Master Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City's three grant applications to the Coastal Management Program
for (a) Padre Island Seawall Public Beach Access and Parking Project; (b) Corpus Christi Downtown
Waterfront Revitalization (Gateway Project); and (c) Corpus Christi Beach Renourishment are
hereby fully supported, and that the City Manager, or his designee, is hereby authorized to submit
the three grant applications.
SECTION 2. That the Corpus Christi Beach Association grant application to the Coastal
Management Program for a Corpus Christi Beach Master Plan is hereby endorsed.
