Home My WebLink About022603 ORD - 06/18/1996AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CHAPTER 53 - TRAFFIC, SCHEDULE V, SECTION 53-254, INCREASE OF STATE SPEED LIMIT IN CERTAIN ZONES BY ESTABLISHING REVISED SPEED LIMITS ON SECTIONS OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 37, S.H. 358 (PADRE ISLAND DRIVE EXPRESSWAY), S.H. 286 (CROSSTOWN EXPRESSWAY), U.S. HIGHWAY 181 EXPRESSWAY, S.H. 44 EXPRESSWAY, PARK ROAD 22 (SO. PADRE ISLAND DRIVE), AND S.H. 361, CONFORMING TO THE SPEED LIMITS APPROVED BY TEXAS TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION MINUTE ORDER 106806; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; AND PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES. WHEREAS, the City Council approved Resolution No. 022539 requesting that the Texas Transportation Commission adopt lower speed limits for portions of S.H. 358 (Padre Island Drive Expressway) and S.H. 286 (Crosstown Expressway) than recommended by the local Texas Department of Transportation (TxDoT) staff; and WHEREAS, the Texas Transportation Commission did not follow the City's request for lower speed limits; and WHEREAS, the Texas Transportation Commission has exclusive authority to set these speed limits and has requested the City Council adopt an ordinance implementing the speed limits set by the Texas Transportation Commission Minute Order 106806; and WHEREAS, in order for the City Prosecutors to prosecute speeding tickets on the named roadways at Municipal Court -rather than either prosecuting them in Justice of the Peace Courts or allowing the County to prosecute those tickets -it is necessary for City Council to adopt an ordinance setting speed limits on the named roadways. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1.
