SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERSTATE
HIGHWAY SYSTEMS TO CONNECT CORPUS CHRISTI
WITH OTHER MAJOR MARKET AREAS AND TO
INTERNATIONAL TRADE.
WHEREAS, the development and improvement of surface transportation highway
routes are vital to the growth of the Corpus Christi region and
WHEREAS, Congress has designated certain highway corridors of national
significance including one from the Texas Mexican Border through Houston to Texarkana
(Corridor 20); and
WHEREAS, recently completed feasibility studies of this corridor show various
alternatives to be feasible and a good investment of public funds; and
WHEREAS, Alternate No. Seven of the feasibility study serves the largest
population of all alternates; complements existing border access infrastructure in Texas;
and integrates with Mexico's infrastructure in addition to serving the Corpus Christi region;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved:
Section 1. That the City of Corpus Christi fully endorses and supports Alternate
No. 7 of the Corridor 20 Feasibility Study or other alternates which include improvements
to the US 77 Corridor from Victoria to Brownsville.
Section 2. That the City of Corpus Christi urges the Texas Transportation
Commission to take the necessary actions to secure formal project authorization,
budgetary appropriations of funding; and construction of improvements at the state and
federal level in the most expeditious manner possible.
