AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO SUPPORT A
PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN CORPUS CHRISTI AND SAN ANTONIO TO
DEVELOP CRUISE SERVICES IN SOUTH TEXAS.
Recitals:
Over the last two years, the Port of Corpus Christi has been surveying opportunities for
business diversification, including cruise services, into the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.
Cruises represent a rapidly growing area of tourism that brings positive benefits to
communities and opens new opportunities for tourism.
The Port of Corpus Christi has tried to integrate the entire South Texas region, but
particularly San Antonio, as part of a cruise package to the cruise lines that enables cruisers to visit
the top destinations in Texas and offers a variety of activities on both land and sea.
Together Corpus Christi and San Antonio can capitalize on one of the fastest growing
segments of the tourism industry and promote a regional partnership between the two cities while
developing cruise services from Corpus Christi as a regional tourist attractions that will open new
tourism opportunities for both cities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. The City Manager, or designee, is authorized to support a partnership between
Corpus Christi and San Antonio to develop cruise services in south Texas.
