HomeMy WebLinkAbout023111 ORD - 10/21/1997AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI CODE OF ORDINANCES BY AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ADMINISTRATION, DIVISION 12, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 2-140 AND 2-141 BY CHANGING THE CORPUS CHRISTI BAY AREA MINORITY BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY COMMITTEE PROGRAM STEERING COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP BY REVISING MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM MEMBERSHIP LIMITS SECTION 1. The Code of Ordinances of the City of Corpus Christi is hereby amended by changing Chapter 2, Administration, Sections 2-140 and 2-141 the Corpus Christi Bay Area Minority Business Opportunity Program Steering Committee membership as follows: DIVISION 12. CORPUS CHRISTI BAY AREA MINORITY BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY COMMITTEE PROGRAM STEERING COMMITTEE. Sec. 2-140. Establishment. There is hereby established the "Corpus Christi Bay Area Minority Business Opportunity Program Steering Committee" (Committee) which shall consist of a minimum of nine (9) fifteen (15) members and not more than fifteen (15) twenty five members. The members of the Committee shall be appointed by the City Council. The Committee shall have the guidance and assistance of the Director of Housing and Community Development. The members of the Committee shall serve without compensation. Sec. 2-141. Membership, Terms, and Quorum. (a) The Committee shall be composed of a minimum of 1) three (3) seven (7) representatives from federal, state, and Local government agencies, 2) one (1) representative from the Greater Corpus Christi Business Alliance, 3) one (1) representative from the Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce, 4) one (1) representative from the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and 5) three (3) fivc (5) representatives from the private sector representing major employers with substantial contracting capabilities. A representative from the Minority Business Development Center and a representative of the Small Business Administration shall serve as Advisory Members to the Committee. The Mayor of the City of Corpus Christi and the Nueces County Judge shall serve as Ex -officio Members of the Committee. (b) Members of the Committee may be appointed from within or without the City and shall be appointed for terms of three years coincident with the City fiscal year. Terms shall be staggered so that no more than one-third of the terms expire in any one City fiscal year. The term of each member shall continue until a successor is appointed, subject to limitations of the City Charter or a term limitation established by ordinance. A vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term in the same manner in which appointments are required to be made. Any member may be removed by the City Council for cause. Initial appointment of one third of the members shall be for one (1) year, 97N141400.402 MICkQJ_ILMEO The term for members of the Advisory Committee shall be three years. Ex -officio Members shall serve while holding the office of Mayor or County Judge. (c) A majority of the members of the Committee shall constitute a quorum. The concurring vote of a majority of those present, but not less than one-third of the members shall be required for making a decision. SECTION 2.
