AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE UPON APPLICATION BY
SPOHN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, BY GRANTING A SPECIAL PERMIT
FOR A MEDICAL HELIPAD TO 0.028 ACRE OUT OF LOT 5 , BLOCK 4,
SECTION 18, PADRE ISLAND - CORPUS CHRISTI; PROVIDING FOR
PUBLICATION; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has forwarded to the City Council its reports and
recommendations concerning the application of Spohn Memorial Hospital, for amendment to the
zoning map of the City of Corpus Christi;
WHEREAS, with proper notice to the public, public hearings were held on Wednesday,
December 10, 1997, during a meeting of the Planning Commission, and on Tuesday, January 27,
1998, during a meeting of the City Council, in the cafeteria at Foy H. Moody High School, in the
City of Corpus Christi, during which all interested persons were allowed to appear and be heard;
and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that this amendment would best serve public
health, necessity. and convenience and the general welfare of the City of Corpus Christi and its
citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, is amended and a
Special Permit for a medical helipad is granted to 0.028 acre out of Lot 5, Block 4, Section 18,
Padre Island - Corpus Christi, located approximately 350 feet east of South Padre Island Drive
and approximately 900 feet north of Verdemar Drive. A metes and bounds description of the
property is attached as Exhibit A.
SECTION 2. That the Special Permit granted in Section 1 of this Ordinance is subject to a site
plan, attached as Exhibit B, the following conditions:
1. ALLOWED USES. The only use authorized by this Special Permit, other than
the basic `B -2A" Barrier Island Business District permitted uses, is a medical
helipad. The helipad must be associated with the medical clinic and used for an
air ambulance, and shall be the only helipad serving the medical clinic. A
helicopter may not be stored on the property.
2. TIME LIMIT. This Special Permit expires one (1) year from the date of this
ordinance, unless the property is being used for the purpose outlined in
Condition 1 and all other conditions have been complied with.
SECTION 3. That the official Zoning Map of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, is amended to
reflect the amendment to the Zoning Ordinance in Section 1 of this ordinance.

SECTION 4. That the Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas,
approved on the 27th day of August, 1973, as amended from time to time, except as changed by
this ordinance and any other ordinances adopted on this date, remain in full force and effect.
SECTION 5. That to the extent that this amendment to the Zoning Ordinance represents a
deviation from the Comprehensive Plan, the Comprehensive Plan is amended to conform to the
Zoning Ordinance, as amended by this ordinance.
SECTION 6. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are
hereby expressly repealed.
SECTION 7. Publication shall be made in the official publication of the City of Corpus Christi
as required by the City Charter of the City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 8. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached,
to find and declare an emergency due to the need for immediate action necessary for the efficient
and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an emergency is made and declared
requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances at two
regular meetings so that this ordinance is passe.. n. shall take effect upon first reading as an

Beginning at a point in the east right-of-way line of South Padre Island Drive, said point also
being the southeast corner of a 2.00 acre tract described as Lot 5, Block 4, Padre Island -Corpus
Christi Section 18 and filed in Volume 57 Page 105 of the map records of Nueces County Texas.
Thence N 68°46'30" E 402.07 feet to a point being the northeast corner of said Lot 5;
Thence northwest along a curve of 2792.01 foot radius a distance of 156.00 feet to a point on
said curve;
Thence S 58°01'30" W a distance of 15.00 feet to a point being the northeast corner and
