HomeMy WebLinkAbout023368 RES - 07/21/1998RESOLUTION REQUESTING THAT CERTAIN ROAD MAINTENANCE PROJECTS BE UNDERTAKEN BY NUECES COUNTY, AND GRANTING CONSENT. Whereas, a $10 fee added to the cost of a vehicle license plate or its renewal provides about $2 million annually to the Nueces County Road and Bridge Fund, and based on records of the Texas Department of Transportation, 93 % of this money is paid by residents or businesses in the City of Corpus Christi; and, Whereas, for many years this money collected from Corpus Christi's residents has been used by Nueces County exclusively to improve and maintain roads outside Corpus Christi, while taxpayers in Corpus Christi have also paid taxes to the City to take care of roads in the city limits; and, Whereas, the street infrastructure is aging and maintenance requirements are increasing, and it seems reasonable that some of the monies paid by Corpus Christi residents to Nueces County be returned for road maintenance projects in Corpus Christi. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: Section 1. The Nueces County Commissioners' Court is hereby requested that the following projects be undertaken during the next twelve months by Nueces County, or that Nueces County reimburse the City of Corpus Christi for the costs of the projects: Precinct One: Up River Road from Leopard Street to Navigation Boulevard.
