REQUESTING THE 76TH TEXAS LEGISLATURE TO ADOPT LEGISLATION
ENABLING PENSION INCREASES FOR CORPUS CHRISTI FIRE FIGHTERS
WHO RETIRED PRIOR TO MAY 21, 1973
WHEREAS, the Attorney General of Texas has ruled that it is legally impermissible for the
Corpus Christi Fire Fighters Retirement System to authorize benefit increases for fire fighters who
retired before May 21, 1973, and their spouses; and
WHEREAS, those firefighters and spouses are presently receiving unconscionably small
pensions and desperately need an increase.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The 76th Texas Legislature is requested to adopt legislation enabling the
Corpus Christi Fire Fighters Retirement System to authorize benefit increases for fire fighters who
retired before May 21, 1973, and their spouses.
SECTION 2. The City Manager is directed to send copies of this resolution to Senator
Carlos Truan, State Representatives Vilma Luna, Gene Seaman, Jaime Capelo, and Judy Hawley,
and other State Officials.
