APPROVAL OF ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE 8127, SECTION 650, AS
AMENDED, COMPENSATION OF PART-TIME HOURLY EMPLOYEES, SUBSECTION 651,
BY REDEFINING PART-TIME STATUS FOR EMPLOYEES HIRED ON OR AFTER
AUGUST 3, 1998, AND PROVIDING FOR EMPLOYEES IN GRADES 11 AND BELOW
HIRED BEFORE AUGUST 3, 1998, WHO HOLD POSITIONS DESIGNATED TO WORK
BETWEEN 25 AND 39 HOURS PER WEEK, TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR BENEFITS AS SET OUT
IN SUBSECTION 707; AMENDING SECTION 700, SPECIAL COMPENSATION
PROVISIONS, SUBSECTION 707, TO PROVIDE FOR PRORATED BENEFITS FOR
EMPLOYEES WORKING 25 OR MORE HOURS PER WEEK, INCLUDING EMPLOYEES
IN GRADE 11 AND BELOW HIRED BEFORE AUGUST 3, 1998, WHO HOLD POSITIONS
DESIGNATED TO WORK BETWEEN 25 AND 39 HOURS PER WEEK AND PROVIDING
FOR SHARED PAYMENT OF THE COST OF OPTIONAL EMPLOYEE AND DEPENDENT
HOSPITALIZATION INSURANCE AS STATED IN SECTION 707; AND PROVIDING FOR
SEVERANCE.
Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas:
Section 1. That Ordinance 8127, Section 650, as amended Compensation of Part-time
Hourly Employees, Subsection 651, be amended by amending Subsection 651 to read as
follows:
651. A part-time employee shall be defined as any employee, hired on or before August 2,
1998, who holds a position in Grade 12 or above who works less than 20 hours per
week or in Grade 11 and below who works less than 40 hours per week; and as any
employee hired on or after August 3, 1998, regardless of grade or salary who hold
positions designated by official job description to work 25 Lours ei k a N., wca } less
than 25 hours per week.
A part-time employee shall be paid on an hourly rate as approved by the City
Manager.
Section 2. That Ordinance 8127, Section 650, as amended Compensation of Part-time
Hourly Employees, Subsection 654, be amended by amending Subsection 654 to read as
follows:
654 Employees in Grades 11 and below. hired on or before August 2. 1998 who hold
positions designated to work between 25 and 39 hours a week, and employees in
Grades 12 and above_ hired nn or before August 2 1998 who work 20 to 39 hours
per week and employees. regardless of grade. hired on or after August 3. 1998_ who
hold positions designated to work between 25 and 39 hour per week, will be eligi
for City benefits provided that vacation. sick leave and personal leave will be
provided on a prorated basis. and further provided that group hospitalization
insurance will be available on a shared cost basis as provided in Section 700. Special

A part-time employee, who is not eligible to accrue sick leave, vacation, or personal
leave, may be eligible for a total of 12 work weeks of leave without pay during any
12 month period, as required by the Family and Medical Leave Act and as provided
by City Policy. To be eligible, the employee must have been employed by the City for
a minimum of 12 months, must have worked a minimum of 1,250 hours, or more, in
the last 12 months, and must otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for such leave
as set out in the City's official policy regarding leave.
Section 3. That Ordinance 8127, Section 700 as amended, Special Compensation Provisions, be
amended by amending Subsection 707 to read as follows:
707. For eligible employees who elect to carry dependent coverage under the City's
primary group hospitalization program . the City shall pay 50% toward the cost of
dependent hospitalization insurance coverage for all -eligible employees who hold
positions designated to work 40 hours per week and for employees in Grades 12 and
above hired on or before August 2. 1998. who are designated to work 20 to 39 hours
per week by official job description_ and the City shall pkv 25% toward the cost of
dependent hospitalization insurance for employees in Grades 11 and below. hired on
or before August 2. 1998 who hold positions designated to work between 25 and 39
hours and for employees hired on or after August 3 1998. regardless of grade. who
hold positions designated to work between 25 and 39 hours per week t,keting• to

Employees who hold positions designated to work 40 hours per week by official job
description. or employees who hold a position in Grades 12 and above. hired on or
before August 2. 1998. who are designated to work 20 to 39 hours per week by
official job description • • • . : • shall contribute $1 per
month for such individual hospitalization insurance coverage with the City paying the
remaining cost. Employees in Grades I 1 and below hired on or before August 2
1998. who hold positions designated to work between 25 and 39 hours and
employees. regardless of grade, hired on or after August 3. 1998. who hold positions
designated to work between 25 and 39 hours per week. shall contribute 50% of the
City's cost for the employee's hospitalization insurance and 75% of the cost of
dependent ho _pitalization insurance.
Section 4. If, for any reason, any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or
provision of this Ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgement of a court of
competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word or provision of this Ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every section,
paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its
purpose.
