AMENDING CODE OF ORDINANCES CHAPTER 2 ADMINISTRATION
DIVISION 6 MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION SECTIONS 2-100
ESTABLISHED; FUNCTION; MEMBERSHIP AND 2-101 TERMS OF
MEMBERS BY: RENAMING THE MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION TO
THE ARTS AND CULTURAL COMMISSION; EXPANDING THE
MEMBERSHIP FROM 15 TO 17; AND RESTRUCTURING THE
APPOINTMENT CRITERIA FOR NEW MEMBERS; AND PROVIDING
FOR SEVERANCE.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the Code of Ordinances Chapter 2. Administration, DIVISION 6.
MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION. be amended to change the name of the commission as follows:
DIVISION 6. ARTS AND CULTURAL MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION
SECTION 2. That the Code of Ordinances Section 2-100, Established; Function;
Membership is hereby amended as follows:
Section 2-100. Established; function; membership.
There is hereby established a municipal arts an arts and cultural commission to act in an
advisory capacity to the city government in connection with the beautification and cultural
development of the city. Such commission shall consist of fifteen (15) members to be... At least
eouncil, park and recreation board, zoning and planning board, thc local historical society, the
council of garden club,, and thc Corpus Christi Museum of Science and I Iistorv. seventeen (17).
members appointed by the mayor, subject to confirmation by a majority of the city council
representing the following categories:
I) Marketing - (2) representatives.
2) Economic Development/Tourism - (2) representatives.
3) Public Space/Public Art - (2) representatives.
4) Youth/Education - (2) representatives.
5) Music•

The mayor may solicit suggested nominations for such appointments from the respective cultural
organizations for the non -lay members.

SECTION 3. That the Code of Ordinances Section 2-101. Terms of Members. is hereby
amended as follows:
Section 2-101. Terms of Members.
The members of said commission shall be appointed on the first day of September. One new
member shall be appointed for a three (1) year term and the other shall be appointed for a two (21
year term. initial appointments as follows: five (5) mcmbcrs of said commissi n shall bc appointed
for onc term of three (3) ycars, five (5) mcmbcrs of said commission shall be appointed for onc term
of two (2) ycars; and five (5) mcmbcrs of said commission shall bc appointed for onc term of one
years Upon the expiration of each of the aforesaid terms of office, the succeeding term of office for
each of the fift„ei. (15) seventeen (173 members shall thereafter be for a period of three (3) years.
SECTION 4. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word
or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court
of competent jurisdiction it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word or provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every
section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof shall be given full force and
effect for its purpose unless such holding has the effect of diminishing the revenue payable to the
City under any agreement entered into under this ordinance.
