HomeMy WebLinkAbout023550 RES - 01/26/1999RESOLUTION SUPPORTING INITIATIVES TO FULLY FUND THE FAA BUDGET FOR THE FULL 1999 FISCAL YEAR AND FULLY FUND FUTURE FISCAL YEAR FAA BUDGETS SO THAT LONG TERM PLANNING AND ADEQUATE FUNDING FOR THE NATION'S AIR TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM IS PROTECTED AND SO THAT NEEDED CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS AT CORPUS CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CAN BE TIMELY COMPLETED. WHEREAS, CCIA is a vital link in the air transportation system of this nation; and WHEREAS, CCIA is critical to our regional and local economy; and WHEREAS, it is the mission of the City of Corpus Christi to aggressively maintain the ability to meet and exceed the growing aviation needs of the region by operating, maintaining, and developing CCIA to provide safe and efficient service; and WHEREAS, continued capital improvements are required to ensure the quality, quantity, and affordability of air service necessary to the vitality and prosperity of the region, the City of Corpus Christi, and its citizens; and WHEREAS, a Terminal Reconstruction Landside Improvements and Airfield Improvements Program was initiated in 1998 as part of the Five -Year CIP to ensure the continued safe use of CCIA; and WHEREAS, multi-year appropriations from the Aviation Trust Fund are needed to adequately fund the Airport Improvement Grant Program to allow local communities to plan and construct facilities at their airports for the benefit of their citizens; and WHEREAS, appropriations for Fiscal Year 1999 are only authorized for six months and will expire on March 31, 1999, and if they are not extended that will have a significant adverse impact on Corpus Christi International Airport. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. The City of Corpus Christi strongly encourages the enactment of federal legislation, to fully fund the FAA for Fiscal Year 1999 and future fiscal years, to protect the long-term planning and the adequate funding to develop the nation's air transportation system. SECTION 2. The City of Corpus Christi requests the assistance of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to provide the necessary grant funding to CCIA for Fiscal Year 1999 to allow the completion of the CIP for CCIA to ensure the continued safe and efficient facilities for the community's use.
