RECOGNIZING THE DEDICATED, LAUDABLE AND MERITORIOUS SERVICE
OF CEFE F. VALENZUELA TO THE CITIZENS OF CORPUS CHRISTI AND
DIRECTING THAT CORPUS CHRISTI'S NEW MUNICIPAL LANDFILL BE
NAMED IN HIS HONOR
WHEREAS, Cefe F. Valenzuela has rendered dedicated, laudable and meritorious service
to the citizens of the City of Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, Cefe F. Valenzuela was born, raised, and educated in Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, Cefe F. Valenzuela faithfully served the citizens as a City employee for 36
years and nine months, beginning as a clerk in the Street Department in 1952, promoted to Office
Manager in 1959, instrumental in settling a sanitation worker labor dispute in 1969, promoted to
Assistant Sanitation Superintendent in 1970 serving under J. C. Elliott (for whom the present landfill
is named), and promoted to Sanitation Superintendent in 1972 where he served with distinction until
his retirement in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Cefe F. Valenzuela has also served the citizens of Corpus Christi through
membership and participation in many public and private entities and activities, including the Park
and Recreation Advisory Committee, the Greens Committee, the Cable Communication
Commission, the Temporary Crime Control and Prevention District Board, Charter Member of the
Pan American Golf Association, youth golf volunteer activities, and volunteer at the Rehabilitation
Hospital; and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi is in the process of developing, and obtaining the
necessary permit from the Texas Natural Resource Conservation, for a new, state-of-the-art
municipal landfill which will serve our citizens throughout the next century.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City Council recognizes and expresses its appreciation for the dedicated,
laudable, and meritorious service of Cefe F. Valenzuela to the citizens of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 2. The City Council directs that the new municipal landfill be named for Cefe
F. Valenzuela and that all records and signs be prepared accordingly.
