AMENDING ORDINANCE 8127, AS AMENDED, SECTION 550,
ADMINISTRATION OF THE COMPENSATION PLAN, SUBSECTION
551.5, RATE OF PAY ON PROMOTION, AND SUBSECTION 551.6 RATE
OF PAY CLASSIFICATION CHANGES, TO PROVIDE THE CITY
MANAGER AUTHORITY UPON PROMOTION OR RECLASSIFICATION
OF AN EMPLOYEE TO APPROVE COMPENSATION AT ANY SALARY
AMOUNT BETWEEN MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM SALARY RANGE IN
THE HIGHER SALARY GRADE WHEN ANY EXCEPTIONAL
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR LABOR MARKET CONDITIONS JUSTIFY
THE ACTION; PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Ordinance 8127, as amended, Section 550 Administration of the
Compensation Plan, Subsection 551.5, Rate of Pay on Promotion, is amended to read as follows:
Section 551.5. Rate ofpay on promotion. In any case where an employee is promoted to
a classification with a higher grade designation, with the exception of positions in the Executive Pay
Plan and the Managerial Group Pay Plan, the entrance salary rate shall be at a rate within the range
of the higher grade which will provide an increase over the salary received immediately prior to such
promotion. Such increase in salary rate may be authorized up to the lowest rate in the higher grade
which results in a minimum increase of 5% ut, to a maxi.,tt.rn jut -lease of 10% over the salary
received immediately prior to the promotion. The City Manager may approve compensation at any
salary amount between the minimum and maximum salary range in the higher salary grade when
exceptional experience, training. or labor market conditions justify the action. Subsequent
advancement within the range of the grade will be on the same basis as described in Section 552.
Salary levels resulting from appointments to Council -appointed positions within the Executive Pay
Plan Mat.agciial C,uup shall be determined solely by the City Council.
SECTION 2. That Ordinance 8127, as amended, Section 550 Administration of the
Compensation Plan, Subsection 551.6, Rate of Pay Classification Changes, is amended to read as
follows:
Section 551.6. Rate of pay Classification Changes. An employee advanced to a higher salary
grade as a result of a classification change, with the exception of changes within the Executive Pay
Plan and the Managerial Pay Plan Crut,p, shall be advanced to the appropriate rate in the higher
grade which provides a salary increase over the salary received immediately prior to the
classification change. Such advancement may be granted up to the lowest rate in the higher grade
level which results in a minimum increase of 5% .. .. . . 0' over the salary
received immediately prior to the classification change. The City Manager may approve
compensation at any salary amount between the minimum and maximum salary range in the higher
salary rade when exceptional experience, training, or labor market conditions justify the action.
All subsequent salary step advancements shall be granted in conformity with Section 552.

SECTION 3. If, for any reason, any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word
or provision of this Ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court
of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase,
word or provision of this Ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every
section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof be given full force and
effect for its purpose.
