HomeMy WebLinkAbout023594 RES - 03/30/1999RESOLUTION Commemorating the Life of Mr. Oveal Williams WHEREAS, Mr. Oveal Williams was a highly respected and honored citizen of Corpus Christi; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams was honored on November 16, 1993 by City Council naming the new north side senior citizens center after him; and WHEREAS, in 1992 Mr. Williams was recognized by St. John's First Baptist church for his commitment to church service and leadership; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams dedicated himself to ushering at church and served at the local, state and national levels; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams served and helped raise funds for many committees, and including the Senior Community Services Advisory Committee, NAACP, North Bay Area Advisory Council, Nueces County Community Action Agency, Coalition of Black Democrats, Black History Culture Committee, and the Fund raising Activities Committee for Seniors (FACS); and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams was a participant since the late 1970's of the Washington Senior Center, where he served as President of the Site Council, as a member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and was a spokesperson for the senior citizens in the North side area for many years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams was employed by the HEB company in the warehouse for 28 years; and WHEREAS, the passing of this community leader and fund raiser on February 27, 1999 is a loss to the entire City, as well as his family, friends, and associates. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Corpus Christi City Council commemorates the life of Mr. Oveal Williams for and on behalf of the citizens. He will be missed by all who knew and worked with him, and our lives are enriched for having known him. The City expresses its condolences to his family and friends. The City Secretary is directed to provide his family with an official copy of this Resolution commemorating Mr. Oveal Williams.
