HomeMy WebLinkAbout023626 RES - 04/27/1999RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE NUECES COUNTY BOND PROGRAM RELATING TO THE ELEVATION OF THE JFK CAUSEWAY, THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE PACKERY CHANNEL, AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE NUECES COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS. WHEREAS, the City Council hereby finds and determines that the Packery Channel should be improved to enhance the recreational use of Padre and Mustang Islands and the areas adjoining the Laguna Madre which will further enhance the use of the Packery Channel and provide a pass to the Gulf of Mexico for pleasure boats and other similar recreational purposes which constitute improvements for park purposes pursuant to Chapter 331, Texas Local Government Code, as amended; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi hereby finds and determines that the JFK Causeway should be improved to provide access to parks, beaches, and recreational facilities on Padre and Mustang Islands and provide for the enhancement of recreational opportunities along the Causeway and sport fishing in Laguna Madre which constitute improvements for park purposes pursuant to Chapter 331, Texas Local Government Code, as amended; and WHEREAS, the City Council hereby finds and determines that proposed Regional Fairgrounds improvements will provide recreational and educational activities to include concerts, youth activities, festivals, community gatherings, exhibits, and livestock shows which constitute improvements for park purposes pursuant to Chapter 331, Texas Local Government Code, as amended; and WHEREAS, the Commissioners Court ofNueces County has found and determined that the necessity to construct various park improvements within the County necessitates that it is in the public interest to call and hold a bond election at the earliest possible date to authorize the issuance of general obligation park bonds for the purpose hereinafter identified; and WHEREAS, the Commissioners Court of NUECES COUNTY, TEXAS has called an election on Saturday, June 12, 1999, to determine whether the Commissioners Court shall be authorized to issue general obligation park bonds of the County in the amount of $38.5 million. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS THAT: SECTION 1. The City Council supports the calling of this election and encourages the citizens of Corpus Christi to participate in the election process. SECTION 2. The City Council supports the passage of these bonds as being in the best interests of the Citizens of Corpus Christi.
