HONORING THE LIFE AND COMMUNITY SERVICE OF
EUGENE C. URBAN SR.
Whereas, Eugene C. Urban, Sr., a graduate of old Corpus Christi High School, entered Texas
A & M University where he became a member of the Corps of Cadets and graduated with a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
Whereas, he served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineering during the
Korean War.
Whereas, Eugene C. Urban, Sr., returned to Corpus Christi in 1953 and began his professional
career with McClendon Engineering.
Whereas, In 1965, along with his brother, Larry, he co-founded Urban Engineering, where he
was instrumental in engineering numerous infrastructure and subdivision projects in the City.
Whereas, Eugene C. Urban's involvment in civic affairs continued throughout his life as
evidenced by his pivotal role in the authorship of the City of Corpus Christi's Platting Ordinance.
His leadership role resulted in enhanced cooperation between developers and the City Staff for
expansion of residential and commercial growth and the sharing of associated costs.
Whereas, his civic commitment was evidenced by his service as president of many varied
organizations including the Buccaneer Commission, Corpus Christi A&M Club, Texas State
Aquarium Association, Greater Corpus Christi Business Alliance, as well as serving on the Board
of Directors of American National Bank and the Botanical Gardens. He was also very active in youth
activities including Oso Little League.
Whereas, Eugene C. Urban, Sr. died April 11, 1999, at the age of 68, leaving a history
of civic and professional leadership in the Corpus Christi area and a rich legacy of family,
friends, subdivisions, buildings, and homes that will serve the Corpus Christi area for generations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council recognizes and honors Eugene C. Urban, Sr. for his
generous contributions to the betterment of Corpus Christi through his civic commitment and
professional commitment.
