SUPPORTING THE ELECTION OF MAYOR SAMUEL L. NEAL, JR.,
AS PRESIDENT-ELECT OF THE TEXAS MUNICIPAL LEAGUE
WHEREAS, Samuel L. Neal, Jr., was elected to his second term as Mayor of Corpus Christi
in April of 1999 with the largest majority of any Corpus Christi mayor in recent times; and
WHEREAS, Samuel L. Neal, Jr., has unselfishly served the citizens of the Corpus Christi
area in many capacities including Chairman of the South Texas Military Facilities Task Force,
member of the Texas Strategic Military Planning Commission, Chairman of the Corpus Christi
Economic Development Corporation, Chairman of the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce,
Chairman of the Art Museum of South Texas, Chairman of the South Texas Homeport Committee,
President of the Corpus Christi Navy League, Chairman of the Leadership Corpus Christi Alumni,
and director of various nonprofit agency boards; and
WHEREAS, Samuel L. Neal, Jr. has distinguished himself in his professional life, presently
serving as Chairman of the Corpus Christi Office of Hilb, Rogal and Hamilton (HRH) Insurance
Company, presently serving as Adjunct Professor of Insurance at Texas A&M University - Corpus
Christi where he has served since 1973, having served more than 30 years in the active Army and
Army Reserve retiring as a Colonel from the Army Reserve in 1989, and having received a B.B.A.
from Texas A&M University - College Station and an M.B.A. from Texas A&I University; and
WHEREAS, Samuel L. Neal, Jr., currently serves as a director of the Texas Municipal
League and has served on the Attorney General's Municipal Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, the last Corpus Christi elected official to serve as President of the Texas
Municipal League was Mayor (now Mayor Emeritus) Luther Jones in 1982; and
WHEREAS, Samuel L. Neal, Jr., would serve ably and well as President of the Texas
Municipal League, and Corpus Christi would be honored to contribute his service in that position
which is so vital to Texas cities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. The City Council strongly supports the election of our Mayor Samuel L. Neal,
Jr., as President -Elect of the Texas Municipal League.
SECTION 2. The City Secretary is directed to deliver this resolution to the Nominating
Committee of the Texas Municipal League for its consideration.
