SUPPORTING LEGISLATION BY STATE REPRESENTATIVE RITTER
THAT ADOPTS A UNIFORM RESIDENTIAL BUILDING CODE FOR THE
STATE.
WHEREAS, State Representative Ritter has proposed legislation, House Bill 2411, that
adopts the International Residential Code as the municipal residential building code in
the State;
WHEREAS, the legislation provides that structures constructed according to the
International Residential Code will be considered insurable property for windstorm and
hail insurance by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association; and
WHEREAS, the legislation designates inspectors certified by the Southern Building
Code Congress International as "qualified inspectors", subject to regulations issued by
the Commissioner of Insurance, for the purposes determining whether the inspected
structures are insurable property for windstorm and hail insurance by the Texas
Windstorm Insurance Association.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Corpus Christi strongly supports and
encourages the passage of House Bill 2411, as introduced by State Representative
Ritter, that adopts a uniform residential building code for the State and designates local
building and coastal construction inspectors certified by the Southern Building Code
Congress International as "qualified inspectors", subject to regulations issued by the
Commissioner of Insurance, for the purposes determining whether the inspected
structures are insurable property for windstorm and hail insurance by the Texas
Windstorm Insurance Association.
SECTION 2. The City Manager is directed to convey the City's support for House
Bill 2411 to the Texas Legislature and other interested state and local officials.
