AN ORDINANCE
AMENDING SECTION 53-97 OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI CODE
OF ORDINANCES TO UPDATE STATUTORY REFERENCES, TO ALLOW
PERMITTED VEHICLES ACCESS ONTO NON-ROADWAY AREAS, AND
TO PROVIDE FOR ISSUANCE OF ACCESS PERMITS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERANCE; AND PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS, THAT:
Section I. Section 53-97 of the City of Corpus Christi Code of Ordinances is amended to read
as follows:
Sec. 53-97
(ill It shall be unlawful for any person to drive, park~ or operate any vehicle, as defined in

parkway, v, vu auy median strip, drainage right-of-way, or in any place not designated or in-

illlridle paths and areas designated for hikers or bicyclists are dillO,lg tho,e places which that are
not designed or intended for the operation of vehicles.
(b) The restrictions in subsection (a) of this section do not applv to:
I. An authorized emergencv vehicle. as defined in Sec. 541.201, Texas Transportation Code.
2. A rv lehicles ahd (.quiplllCllt used in the supervision or maintenance of a park, parkway, drain-
age right-of-way, bridle path, bicycle path, or hiking path, while being used for=ch supervision

other governmental entity.
3. A vehicle that needs to access non-roadwav areas. The operator of the vehicle. prior to enter-
ing a non-roadwav area, mllst obtain a permit issued bv the Director of Park and Recreation, the
Storm Water Superintendent, or the Traffic Engineer that specifies the non-roadwav area to be
accessed.
SECTION 2. If, for any reason, any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or
provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court
of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause,
phrase, word or provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of the City Council that
every section, paragraph, subdivision, phrase, word and provision hereof shall be given full force
and effect for its purpose.

SECTION 3. Publication will be made in the official publication of the City of Corpus Christi as
required by the City Charter of the City of Corpus Christi.
