HomeMy WebLinkAbout025275 RES - 04/29/2003RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE TO ALLOW SAN PATRICIO COUNTY TO APPOINT A COMMISSIONER TO THE PORT OF CORPUS CHRISTI AUTHORITY. WHEREAS, the Port of Corpus Christi Authority is the "economic engine" of South Texas; and WHEREAS, significant facilities that are dependent upon the Port of Corpus Christi are located within San Patricio County; and WHEREAS, in the spirit of reaching out, sharing good faith and the furtherance of the development of the region, San Patricio County should have a voice in the operations or the Port of Corpus Christi Authority; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi believes the Comm ssioners Court of San Patricio County should be allowed to appoint a citizen of the United States of America residing in San Patricio County as a commissioner to the Port of Corpus Christi Authority; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: Section 1. The City of Corpus Christi encourages legislation that will annex San Patricio County to the service area of the Port of Corpus Christi Authority. Section 2. The City of Corpus Christi encourages legislation that will allow the Commissioners Court of San Patricio County to appoint a citizen of the United States of America from San Patricio County as a commissioner to the Port of Corpus Christi Authority. Section 3. The Port Commissioners serving at the time the annexation of San Patricio County is approved will continue to serve, unless otherwise removed as provided by law, until the expiration of their terms. Section 4. Ail Port Commissioners continue to serve three (3) year staggered terms under the current law. Section 5. All Port Commissioners will perform financial disclosures in the same manner as prescribed for members of the City Council or Commissioners Court that appoints the commissioners. Section 6. A Port commissioner candidate must have resided for a minimum of two (2) years in the jurisdiction from which they are appointed. R30524A1.DOC 2 Section 7.
