RESOLUTION
Commemorating the Public Service of Samuel L. Neal, Jr. as
Mayor 1997-2005
WHEREAS, Samuel L. Neal, Jr. considers his service as the Mayor for the City of Corpus Christi
for the past eight years as an honor and a privilege: and Samuel L. Neal, Jr. has earned the respect and
confidence of his fellow City Council Members, State and National Governmental Representatives, City
Staff and the Citizens of Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, Samuel L. Neal, Jr. has not only been a strong role model for the community, but
has represented the City of Corpus Christi on state, national and international levels with the highest
esteem as a member of the Texas Municipal League Board, Chairman of the South Texas Military
Facilities Task Force, the Texas Strategic Military Planning Commission, the Texas Military Preparedness
Commission and hosting our Sister City dignitaries and visitors from other countries; and
WHEREAS, Samuel L. Neal, Jr. has quoted, "The only way to make a difference is to make a
difference", and took an active and successful leadership role in the passage of a 1/8 cent sales tax to
create a "Crime Control and Prevention District", the 2000 Bond Issue which included a multi purpose
arena and a minor league baseball park, the passage of the Tax Increment Finance Zone for the
construction and maintenance of Packery Channel, the voter approved 95 million dollars in bond projects
in 2004, which included 11 million for the Bayfront Master Plan, a project Mayor Neal has supported
throughout his term.
WHEREAS, Samuel L. Neal, Jr. has led our diverse community to a bright future making
decisions which were grounded in truthfulness, fairness, and consistency which has earned him a
favorable reputation for the City of Corpus Christi as its chief elected official.
NOW, lHEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY TIIE CITY COUNCIL OF TIIE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI
That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi for and on behalf of the citizens of the City
commemorate the public service of Samuel L. Neal, Jr. as Mayor (1997-2005). The City expresses its
appreciation for the many lifetime accomplishments and contributions that he has made to our
community, and wishes him well on his future life endeavors.
