ORDINANCE
APPROPRIATING $258,284 FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE,
BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE, FOR FUNDS AVAILABLE UNDER THE FY
2006 EDWARD BYRNE MEMORIAL JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG), IN
THE No. 1061 POLICE GRANT FUND, TO PURCHASE LAW ENFORCEMENT
EQUIPMENT AND FUND THE ENHANCEMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR
THE CORPUS CHRISTI POLICE DEPARTMENT AND NUECES COUNTY, TEXAS,
PURSUANT TO AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That $258,284 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice
Assistance, for funds available under the FY 2005 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice
Assistance Grant (JAG), be appropriated in the No. 1061 Police Grant Fund, to
purchase law enforcement equipment and fund the enhancement of law enforcement
for the Corpus Christi Police Department and Nueces County, Texas, pursuant to an
Interlocal Agreement; and declaring an emergency.
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council Members, the
City Council (1) finds and declares an emergency due to the need for immediate
action for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs; and, (2) suspends
that Charter rule which requires an ordinance to be considered and voted upon at two
regular meetings, so that this ordinance is .passed and ~ffect as an emergency
measure upon its first reading, this, the '3o-r--- day of s~ , 2005.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the attached ordinance, an
emergency exists requiring suspension of that Charter rule which requires an
ordinance to be considered and voted upon at two regular meetings. Therefore, I/we
request that you suspend said Charter rule and finally pass this ordinance on the date
of Its introduction, or at the present meeting of the City Council.
