HomeMy WebLinkAbout026462 ORD - 09/13/2005 ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CORPUS CHRISTI CODE OF ORDINANCES, CHAPTER 57, VEHICLES FOR HIRE, SECTION 57-135, FARES--AMOUNTS, TO CHANGE THE INCREMENT RATE FROM THIRTY-FIVE CENTS ($0.35) ADDITIONAL FOR EACH SUCCEEDING ONE-FIFTH (1/5) MILE OR FRACTION THEREOF TO A SLIDING SCALE CHARGE FOR EACH SUCCEEDING ONE-FIFTH (1/5) MILE OR FRACTION THEREOF WHICH IS BASED UPON THE AVERAGE RETAIL PRICE OF ONE GALLON OF REGULAR GASOLINE; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION; PROVIDING FOR PENAL TIES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the Corpus Christi Code of Ordinances, Chapter 57, Vehicles for Hire, Section 57-135, Fares--Amounts, is hereby amended as follows: See, 57-135" Fares-Amounts" There is hereby established as the rates of fare for taxicabs within the city limits of the City of Corpus Christi for one or more persons, not exceeding five (5) persons, of two dollars and twenty-five cents ($2.25) for the first one-fifth (1/5) mile or less, and thirty five cents ($0.35) an additional charae for each succeeding one fifth (1/5) mile or fraction thereof, based uoon the averaae retail price of one (1) aallon of reaular aasoline sold within the City of Corpus Christi and in accordance with the followina chart: Per gallon gasoline price Charge per succeeding one-fifth (1/5) mile Under 2.25 2.25 - 2499 250 - 2"749 275 - 2"999 3.00 - 3.249 3.25 - 3.499 350 - 3.749 35 "36 "37 38 "39 .40 41 Note: Sliding scale formula shall be applied, ad infinitum" G2G462 The price of one (1) callan of reaular casoline sold within the City of Corpus Christi shall be determined by the Oil Price Information Service, as reeorted by AAA at VV1E''..:.LL 1~" " Such erice will be determined by the current Coreus Christi erice civen by AAA at 9:00 a.m. Central Standard Time (CST) on the tenth (10th) day of each month and will 00 into effect at 12:01 a.m. CST on the first (1st) day of the consecutive month. The Taxicab Inseector shall disseminate the casoline once In addition to the above taxicab rates of fare, taxicabs may charge a flat rate fuel surcharge of twenty-five cents ($0.25) for each fare~ during such period when the 3'.'erage retail price of one (1) gallon of regular gasoline sold ':.:ithin the City of Corpus Christi excoods one dollar and fifty cents ($1.50)" For each one hour of waiting time, the maximum charge shall be twenty- four dollars ($24"00), accumulated in increments of forty cents ($0.40) per minute. The above established rates of fare are the maximum that may be charged, provided however, for fares collected from passengers picked up at the airport, such airport passenger fares may include a fifty cent ($ 0.50) surcharge per fare collected from one or more persons not to exceed five (5) persons. Lower rates may be charged at the option of the taxicab certificate holder" SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, dause, phrase, word or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose" SECTION 3. Publication of this ordinance shall be made in one issue of a newspaper of general circulation in the city in accordance with the requirements of the Charter of the City of Corpus Christi after which publication this ordinance shall be in force SECTION 4. Violation of this ordinance is an offense, punishable as provided in section 1-6 of the City Code of Ordinances. SECTION 5.
