HomeMy WebLinkAbout026476 ORD - 09/21/2005 EVACUATION ORDER FOR THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS Under the authority of Section 16-4(a)(1). (2), and (3), as Mayor and Presiding Officer of the City Council, I have determined that the following measures are needed in the interest of public 'lealth, safety and welfare, and are necessary for the preservation of life and to mitigate damages from the winds and rising tides caused by Hurricane Rita. hereby order all Individuals who live and work within the city limits of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, to immediately evacuate all areas of the City of Corpus Christi. All individuals shall evacuate the City of Corpus Christi, Texas by 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2005. The following facilities and their essential personnel are exempt from this evacuation order: City of Corpus Christi Hospitals that are in compliance with the state-required evacuation procedures; and Major Petrochemical facilities. Essential employees of a facility exempt from evacuation order must have a valid driver's license or identification card issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety and an employee Identification card from the exempt facility. The name on the driver's license or identification card must match the name on the employee identification card or business card. (2) After 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2005, access to the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, will be restricted to emergency service personnel, individuals employed by the City and publiC service vehicles and employees of exempt facilities. Upon the onset of Tropical Storm weather conditions, no police, fire, or emergency medical services will be provided within the City of Corpus Christi, Texas. A Violation of this order is a violation of the City's emergency management plan. Under Section ~ 6-8(c) of the Code of Ordinances, anyone who remains within the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, after the date and time specified in this Order and after being advised of this Order may be fined of up to one thousand dollars ($1.000.00) and imprisoned for up to one hundred eighty i80) days per violation. Anyone remaining within the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, after the time established in Section 1 ) does so at his/her own risk and may not rely on the City of Corpus Christi or any other entity to come to his/her aid or assistance until after this evacuation order is cancelled.
