Texas 78401 FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT: Terry Shamsie, Nueces County Judge (361) 888-0444 Bill Roberts, Emergency Management Coordinator, (361) 533-2355 Tvner Little. Executive Assistant to Judge, (361) 960-6363 FOR IMMEDIA TE RELEASE RE: HURRICANE RITA Nueces County Judge Terry Shamsie has reduced the call for a mandatory evacuation to VOLUNTARY EVACUA TlON for most areas of Nueces County effective immediately, 12:00 noon, Thursday, September 22,2005. According to the latest information from the State of Texas and National Weather Service, Hurricane Rita's projected path has significantly reduced the risk of damage to jife and property in Nueces County. Considering there will be greater need for resources to the North and East, a voluntary evacuation will free up resources to other locations in the State of Texas where they are needed more desperately. The County Judge has consulted area Mayors, including Georgia Neblett of Port Aransas. Consequently, this order does not include the City of Port Aransas, and low areas subject to flooding within Nueces County. The County Judge cautions the public about the continued risk of flooding due to storm surge and rainfall. Nueces County will continue to monitor and keep a close eye on Rita and will inform the public and the media as new information becomes available.
