HomeMy WebLinkAbout026525 RES - 10/18/2005 RESOLUTION REGARDING THE REVERSIONARY RIGHTS TO NAVAL STATION INGLESlDE WHEREAS. the State of Texas and the Citizens of the Coastal Bend donated hoth cash and sizeable quantities of economically valuable property to the United States "'a\ y !o assist in the establishment of Naval Station Inglcside: and WHEREAS, the donation of this property was made in reliance upon plans by the 1 niled States to increase the number of naval vessels in active service and to establish a \ !brant. long-term homeport for naval vessels at lngleside. Texas: and WHEREAS. the United States Navy has now decided to reduce its homeport Infr,lstructure and close Naval Station Ingleside: and WHEREAS. it is unfair to require the donors of the property that became Naval "tat ion lngleside to reimburse the United States for the fair market value of the United "tates Navy improvements at this home port since the local community never received the ,'''pected long-term economic stimulus that supported the decision to donate the property: IIld WHEREAS, the discretionary approach taken in Section 2823 of the Military I. onstruction Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005 (Division B of Public Law 108-375; I IK Stat. 2132: lOUSe. 'iO 13 note) is insufficient to protect the interest of the local LiJlTlIllunity: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS THAT: SECTION I. The Secretary of the Navy comply with the terms of the reversionary Interest retained with regard to the property when it was donated for the establishment of !his homeport and promptly convey this property to the Port of Corpus Christi Authority, 'he h()lder of the reversionarv interesl.
