HomeMy WebLinkAbout026760 ORD - 05/09/2006ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING $159,671 FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, BUREAU OF JUSTICE ASSISTANCE IN THE NO. 1061 POLICE GRANTS FUND TO PURCHASE LAW ENFORCEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND NUECES COUNTY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That $159,671 from the U. S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance is appropriated in the No 1061 Police Grants Fund for the purchase of law enforcement equipment for the Police Department and Nueces County. SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council Members, the City Council (1) finds and declares an emergency due to the need for immediate action for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs; and, (2) suspends that Charter rule which requires an ordinance to be considered and voted upon at two regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and takes effect as an emergency measure upon its first reading on this the 9th of May, 2006 ATTEST: THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI Armando Chapa, City Secretary H:'nry Garr = , Mayor Approved as to form vJ j S , 2006 Joseph Harriey Assistant City Attorney For City Attorney ?r: }7F;O TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL Corpus Christi, Texas For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the attached ordinance, an emergency exists requiring suspension of that Charter rule which requires an ordinance to be considered and voted upon at two regular meetings. Therefore, I /we request that you suspend said Charter rule and finally pass this ordinance on the date of its introduction or at the present meeting of the City Council.
