HomeMy WebLinkAbout026913 RES - 08/22/2006RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE COASTAL BEND MITIGATION ACTION PLAN DEVELOPED WITH THE COASTAL BEND COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS AND APPOINTING THE CITY MANAGER, OR HIS DESIGNEE, TO ACT AS THE CITY'S HAZARD MITIGATION COORDINATOR. WHEREAS, certain areas of the City of Corpus Christi are subject to hurricane winds, flooding, drought, and other natural hazards with the potential to cause damages to people property, and the natural environment within the area; and WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi desires to reduce future losses from such events; and WHEREAS, under the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires that local jurisdictions have in place a FEMA-approved Hazard Mitigation Plan as a condition of receipt of certain future federal assistance funding for mitigation after Novermber 1, 2004; and WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has entered into the "Coastal Bend Mitigation Action Plan Interlocal Cooperation Agreement" with other jurisdictions within a seven - county region for the purpose of developing Coastal Bend Mitigation Action Plan (the Plan); and WHEREAS, the mitigation strategy set forth in the CBMAP must be implemented, monitored, and evaluated in the future; and WNEREAS, the members of the Coastal Bend Council of Governments (CBCOG) have adopted Resolution Number 2567A, wherein CBCOG has agreed to provide certain acninistrative and technical support services necessary for future required updates to the Plan; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI: SUCTION 1. That those portions of the Plan entitled "Coastal Bend Mitigation Action Plan" that pertain to the City of Corpus Christi be adopted. S1TION 2. That City Manager, or his designee, shall serve as the City's Hazard Mitigation Coordinator, be vested with the responsibility, authority, and the means to: a) inform all concerned parties of this action, b) ensure that the Plan is reviewed at least annually, and after every significant natural disaster affecting the city.. ,26913 cj collect and maintain records necessary to update the Plan on a five -year revision cycle. SICTION 3, That to the extent permitted under the laws and Constitution of the State of Texas, the City of Corpus Christi shall ensure that the mitigation strategy is reviewed, arid where appropriate, ,ncorporated into other and use and planning mechanisms. SECTION 4. That the City Council agrees to take such other official action as may reonably be necessary to carry out the objectives of the Plan.
