AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES CHAPTER 33,
OFFENSES AND MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS BY
PROHIBITING CERTAIN ACTIVITY KNOWN AS GRINDING ON
CITY PROPERTY; PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE, PROVIDING
FOR PUBLICATION, PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES, AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 33, Offenses and miscellaneous provisions is
amended by adding Section 33-14; Grinding prohibited, to read as follows:
Sec. 33-14 Griindina arohibited.
(4) Grirtclinq is defined as using the deck. peg, axle or any surface that is not the
wheel of any type of skating device or bicycle to rub or slide along the surface of
a step, j$ench, ledge, rail, or other structure.
tbl Ex ept in areas specifically designated for these purposes, such as a skate
park. no person shall use inline skates, roller skates, skateboard, free style
bicycle or similar device for grinding or in any other manner that may cause
dnage to the seawall, city streets, sidewalks, or other city property.
SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause,
phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or
unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not
affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or
provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council that
every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause. phrase, word or provision hereof
be given full force and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 3. Publication shall be made in the official publication of the City of
Corpus Christi as required by the City Charter of the City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 4. Penalties are as provided in Section 1-6.
SECTION 5. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council Members,
the City Council (1) finds and declares an emergency due to the need for
immediate action for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs; and,
(2) suspends that Charter rule which requires an ordinance to be considered and
voted upon at two regular meetings, so that this ordinance is passed and takes
effect as an emergency measure upon its first reading on January 23rd, 2007.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the attached ordinance, an emergency
exists requiring suspension of that Charter rule which requires an ordinance to be considered
and voted upon at two regular meetings. Therefore, I/we request that you suspend said
Charter rule and finally pass this ordinance on the date of its introduction, or at the present
meeting of the City Council.
