APPROPRIATING A GRANT OF $1,074,009 FROM THE U. S.
DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT FOR
THE 2006 CONTINUUM OF CARE GRANT PROGRAM IN THE NO.
1071 COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT FUND FOR HOMELESS
SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROGRAM RENEWAL PROJECTS AND
ACTIVITIES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS, THAT:
SECTION 1. A grant of $1,074,009 from the U. S. Department of Housing and Ur-
ban Development, for the 2006 Continuum of Care Grant Program, is appropriated
in the No. 1071 Community Enrichment Fund for homeless supportive housing
program renewal projects and activities, which includes: (1) $150,577 for the
Nueces County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Community Center;
(2) $134,971 for the Wesley Community Center; (3) $309,539 for The Salvation
Army; (4) $176,098 for Goodwill Industries of South Texas, Inc.; (5) $142,569 for the
Coastal Bend Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Center doing business as Charlie's
Place; and (6) $160,255 for Corpus Christi Metro Ministries, Inc.
SECTION 2. Upon the written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy
attached, the City Council: (1) finds and declares an emergency due to the need for
immediate action necessary for the efficient and effective administration of City
affairs, and (2) suspends the Charter rule that requires consideration of and voting
upon ordinances at two regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and takes
effect upon first reading as an emergency measure on this the day of
2007.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance, an emer-
gency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting
upon ordinances at two regular meetings: I/we, therefore, request that you suspend
said Charter rule and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced or at the
present meeting of the City Council.
