AMENDING ORDINANCE 027352 WHICH ADOPTED THE FY 2007-2008 OPERATING
BUDGET, TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF FIRE CAPTAIN POSITIONS FROM 78 TO 9;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Ordinance 027352 which adopted FY 2007-2008 operating budget, Section
4, is amended to increase number of Fire Captain positions from 78 to 9; as follows:
"Section 4. Firefighter Positions.
The number of positions budgeted for each firefighter classification in the Fire
Department shall be:
Firefighter 134*
Firefighter 11— EMS — 97
Firefighter 11 — Engineer70
—
Fire Captain —8 79
Battalion Chief — 10
Assistant Fire Chief —
Deputy Fire Chief —1
Fire Chief1
—
FY 07-08 TOTAL 395 396
*This number may be temporarily increased by graduates from a fire academy
authorized by the City Manager, which temporary increase shall be reduced to
authorized strength through attrition."
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached,
the City Council (1) finds and declares an emergency due to the need for immediate action
necessary for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs and (2) suspends the
Charter rule that requires consideration of and voting upon ordinances at two regular meetings
so that this ordinance is passed and takes effect upon first reading as an emergency measure
this the 23rd day of October, 2007.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance an
emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and
voting upon ordinances at two regular meetings: I we, therefore, request that you
suspend said Charter rule and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced, or
at the present meeting of the City Council.
