AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES CHAPTER 53,
TRAFFIC BY ALLOWING FOR THE CREATION OF LIMOUSINE
STANDS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE, PROVIDING FOR
PUBLICATION, PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES, AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 53, Traffic is amended by revising Sections 53-164
and 53-166, to read as follows:
Sec. 53-164. Authority to establish bus stops limousine stands, and
taxicab stands.
The city manager, or such officers or employees of the city designated by the city
manager, is hereby authorized and required to establish bus stops, limousine
stands, and taxicab stands on such public streets in such places and in such
number as he shall determine to be of the greatest benefit and convenience to
the public, and every such bus stop and taxicab stand shall be designated by
appropriate signs.

Sec. 53-166. Restricted use of bus stops limousine stands and taxicab
stands.
No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle other than a bus in a bus stop,
otter than _ lir n usj in a limousine stand, or other than a taxicab in a taxicab
stand, when any such stop or stand has been officially designated and
appropriately signed, except that the driver of a passenger vehicle may
temporarily stop therein for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading
or unloading passengers when such stopping does not interfere with any bus,
Limousine or taxicab waiting to enter, entering or attempting to leave such zone.
SECTION . If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause,
phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or
unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not
affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or
provision of this ordinance, for it is the definite intent of this City Council that
every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof
be given full force and effect for its purpose.

SECTION 3. Publication shall be made in the official publication of the City of
Corpus Christi as required by the City Charter of the City of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 4. Penalties are as provided in Chapter 53.
SECTION 55. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council Members,
the City Council (1) finds and declares an emergency ency due to the need for
immediate action for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs; and,
(2) suspends that Charter rule which requires an ordinance to be considered and
voted upon at two regular meetin ; so that this ordinance is passed and takes
effect as an emergency measure upon its first reading on November ber 2 , 2007.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the attached ordinance, an emergency
exists requiring suspension of that Charter rule which requires an ordinance to be considered
and voted upon at two regular meetings. Therefore, !Ave request that you suspend said
Charter rule and finally pass this ordinance on the date of its introduction, or at the present
meeting of the City Council.
