HomeMy WebLinkAbout028274 ORD - 08/18/20091 AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING MARGIE SILVA FLORES AS THE PRESIDING JUDGE OF THE MUNICIPAL COURT OF RECORD IN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI; DETERMINING SALARY; PROVIDING A TERM OF OFFICE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Margie Silva Flores is appointed the Presiding Judge of the Municipal Court of Record in the City of Corpus Christi. SECTION 2. That the Presiding Judge, shall have the duty to direct the assignment and trial of cases and magistrate duties, to order any judge to exchange benches and preside in any court, and to generally administer all judicial functions of the municipal court of record. SECTION 3. That the Presiding Judge, shall be the chief judge of the municipal court of record and shall, in conference with the other judges, except the part-time judges, establish the local rules of the municipal court of record, consistent with the ordinances of the city and the laws of the state. SECTION 4. That the Presiding Judge of the Municipal Court of Record in the City of Corpus Christi, shall receive a salary of $97,000, with a subsequent pay increase identified in City Council's plan to move the municipal judge salaries to the City midpoint, with the Presiding Judge receiving a 2.3% increase effective May 3, 2010. SECTION 5. That the Presiding Judge of the Municipal Court of Record in the City of Corpus Christi shall hold office for a two-year term coterminous with the term of the appointing city council unless sooner removed or until the successor, if any, is appointed. SECTION 6. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, the City Council (1) finds and declares an emergency due to the need for immediate action necessary for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs and (2) suspends the Charter rule that requires consideration of and voting upon ordinances at two regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and takes effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 18th day of August, 2009.
